I am Novelt Mack Jr., a native New Yorker, married father of two and retired U.S. Air Force Member of 26 years. I am honored to have been selected as Commander for the 2023-2025 term and will do all I can to further veterans’ initiatives in the Laughlin area. The health, morale and welfare of veterans and their families is my focus. We have many programs and events throughout the year as well as volunteer opportunities, and welcome you to come support us.
Greetings fellow veterans and veteran supporters.
This is a call out to all who are willing to cook, sell candy or be available to do anything to support veterans and their families in need.
You see, November starts the beginning of the busiest time of the year for American Legion Post 60. I like to call it the “Holiday Corridor”, November through December.
We have Veterans Day on November 11th, which will consist of our usual annual service at the Avenue of the Flags, adjacent to the Riverside Resort followed by lunch at the post.
Next, is the start of our Annual See’s Candy fundraiser; the largest fundraiser we conduct as a post. The proceeds help to fund most of our community support/engagement programs during the year. The first sale date begins on November 10thand ends at the end of the last shift on November 30th. It begins again in December and runs through Christmas. Sign-up sheets to work at either the Riverside Resort or Aquarius Casino are already posted inside the Legion. Please, please, please come by and select a shift.
Also, we would like to provide a holiday meal for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays but cannot do so without manpower. I need volunteers with health cards willing to help cook, set-up, and clean-up.
December, we have the annual Shop-with-a-Cop program. We will host breakfast for Laughlin, Searchlight, and Cal-Nev-Ari youth that Metro Police will take shopping. We provide a free pancake breakfast for the kids, their families, and the police shoppers before they are bussed off to the Department Store.
Lastly, we have the New Year’s Eve Celebration at the Post and welcome all to come out.
There you have it. A lot is going on over these next two months in addition to our regular day-to-day services. Your support is what makes us successful. I look forward to working alongside you all.
In comradeship,
Novelt Mack Jr., Commander.
